What is on record
The masked swordsman of the Long Pillars: an optional duellist fought five times across the map for the Bloodline Awakening quest, each time in a burning arena, with Red- and Blue-glint attacks that the game's own hint text tells you to dodge and parry. Beneath the mask is Mo Yuan, played by Donnie Yen.
Who he is
The Gold-Masked One is the recurring duellist of the Bloodline Awakening quest: the dragon statue at each Long Pillar starts a fight against a man in a gold mask with a curved sword. Before launch, director Qiwei Liang told GamingBolt that Mo Yuan, the character played by Donnie Yen through facial and motion capture, would be a powerful hidden boss, and PC Gamer reported the August 2026 trailer revealing Mo Yuan under the mask. In the retail game the first four Long Pillar name bars read "The Gold-Masked One"; at the fifth, in PowerPyx's video from 15:20, the name bar reads "Mo Yuan, Leader of the Bastion of Mo". The full-playthrough chapter for that fight is titled "The Gold-Masked One (Truth Revealed)".
Where the five duels are
PowerPyx's captions and KeenGamer agree on the order. Long Pillar 1 is in the Weeping Creek Valley, in the cave across the bridge at Long Pillar Overlook; Game8 notes main-quest progress alone does not lead there. Long Pillar 2 is the Mirrorwood Long Pillar in the Crimson Forest, in front of the waterfall north of the burial grounds. Long Pillar 3 is at the Midlake Long Pillar Dock on Meigu Lake and Long Pillar 4 in the Phantom Illusionist Ruins, the lake's secret realm. Long Pillar 5 is in the Mirage Estate. Each duel is fought on scorched ground with the surrounding buildings on fire, as the frames at 1:20 and 6:40 show.
The game's own hints
The retail fights carry on-screen hint text, which PowerPyx's capture keeps: at pillar 1, "Parry Blue-flash Attacks and Perfect Dodge Red-flash Attacks whenever possible to gain the upper hand!"; at pillar 2, "The Man in Black can deplete your Sha-Chi"; at pillar 3, "Keep attacking relentlessly! If you stop, the Man in Black's Sha-Chi will rapidly recover!"; at pillar 4, "Power Surges can interrupt powerful" attacks. The hints call him the Man in Black.
How Game8 handles him
For the first duel Game8 says to hold block through his combos and answer with a Perfect Dodge or parry to trigger Ghoststep for a counter from behind. Red-glint attacks are dodged: the sword-flip jump (dodge on the downward slash), the sliding kick, the thrust (dodge when he spins) and the grab (dodge when his eyes glow red). Blue-glint attacks, mostly jumps, are parried, with two exceptions: the sword-flip jump is dodged, and the fifth hit of the sword-wave string, a jump with a blue glow, is parried after the earlier waves have been dodged or parried. He becomes invulnerable after a guard break, so combos have to finish inside the window.
For the second duel the guide adds two attacks that turn the screen black and white; they drain Sha-Chi completely if blocked, so dodge them, and they can lead straight into Killer or Brutal Moves. His dash is telegraphed by a crouch with a brief red glow and lands about a second later; dodge once he moves, not when he readies. Game8's build is the Outlaw Warblade from Jing Ye for guard break.
Rewards
Counterstrike Bracers at pillar 1 and the Miraculous Scabbard at pillar 2 (Game8, KeenGamer); the Quenched Flaming Grip and Flaming Grip at pillar 3 (KeenGamer); Bloodline Awakening progress at pillar 4, and the quest's completion at pillar 5. Mo Yuan's own drop, the Bastion of Mo Mask, is listed by KeenGamer under his own entry.
The phases above are the ones shown in official footage, named by their on-screen name bars. Tells, punish windows and health thresholds are added only once the retail fight has been checked; we do not invent them from trailer cuts.
